As yet so much to live opens with two gazes that meet. Stefania, 33 years old, three children, sophisticated and beautiful, and dark-eyed Virgilio.

They are separated by the bars of the dock in a courtroom. Virgilio is on trial for armed robbery and for being an accessory to murder. "It wasn't a bolt of lightining tearing into a life without emotions" says Stefania, "it was the key to a journey that began from afar. Virgilio embodied the roots of my being: my desire for justice, my sense of beauty and of poetry, my gift of reading the eyes of a man, wherever he comes from, whatever his life has been, whatever social barriers and prejudices separate us."

For years Stefania was Virgilio's link to the future and the light, a window onto the universe beyond the walls of his cell. "It was like living for two. My senses were heightened, all my feelings were multiplied. Our letters, this confrontation taught me the value of time and space, the value of small things." A difficult and beautiful story.

A moving story that is both drammatic and beautiful.
A real story.
